Still trying to come to terms about the loss of our Meowmeow, he left too sudden and too unexpectedly. We gave the go ahead for the vet to do a surgery to remove threads from his bowels, his bloodwork was great, we both thought he would be fine. But he didn’t wake up this morning :( we got a call from the vet around 8am to tell us meow wasn’t responding =_= and was THEN told that the chances for the operation was 50/50.

Both husband and me feel like we betrayed Meowmeow *sigh* but at the same time we also know that what’s done cannot be undone. Meowmeow was a trooper tho, while he was sick he still tries to get into his regular schedule when he has the energy, he would join us when we eat, watch TV and sleep with us during the last 6 weeks he was with us.

I think it somehow makes it harder for us to believe that he’s gone just like that.

I never owned a cat before, as my parents do not allow pets in our little HDB flat back in Singapore, when I first met Meowmeow he was not a very friendly cat to me. I was attacked twice by the whole 15-18 pounds — drawing blood, but after that he seems to think I am not a threat to his place in the household. I was terrified of that cat initially tho, but who can resist those big anime-like green eyes?

Over time he started to be nicer/less hostile to me, even tho his favourite guy is still my husband. We often joked that Meowmeow is gay (he’s a boy by the way, nuetered :P)

I heard from my husband, (Me and hubs haven’t known each other then) Meowmeow was rescued from a dumpster when he was barely the size of a rat in 1996 — his eyes even wasn’t opened then. Meowmeow and another kitten was meowing loudly in the dumpster, abandoned perhaps by someone. The family had to feed him with kitten formula until he got bigger. Meowmeow started attacking visitors as he got bigger unfortunately and became my husband and his parent’s responsibility later on when his brother moved out.

I have a few not so great photos of Meow before he became a huge kitty

I was told that he climbed in under the blanket by himself and peeked out like this :) So darn cute! (the couple in the pictures are my brother in law and his wife — before I knew them)

While I wished I knew Meow when he was a bean, I heard that he tend to try to attack people’s feets even when he was a bean cat.

Smaller than a roll of toilet paper!

Getting bigger…

Big head cat (teenage years?)

Meowmeow apparently had always been a slient cat since young. I noticed that he seemed to became more vocal as I moved in and lived with the family, and I was extremely amused. Since he didn’t meow a lot, his meowing always sounds very girly and kitten like. And yes it’s ironic that his name is Meowmeow, since he’s a boy and doesn’t meow much then :P

Meowmeow was a handsome and adorable cat (after he initialized you by attacking U visiciously once or twice :P), I often enjoy making him the subject of my digital photography, I have tons and tons of pictures of Meowmeow over the 4-5 years I lived with him.

(Please excuse the different sizes ^^;)

King of the house

Meowmeow loved boxes, he always tried to see if he could fit into the opened boxes when we get something in the mail, he was strong enough to open doors to our cabinet/wardrobe and would go inside to check things out when he get them opened.

Size does not matter, really!

He likes to play with say, a ping pong ball, and we used to find him playing “soccer” by himself once in a while, almost like he was entertaining himself. Sometimes we join in, rolling the ball at him or kicking the ball back so he can catch it. Meowmeow loved food too, he would go eat by himself when he feels hungry, and always demands for his treats at about the same time every night. We often used to say when we eats, he eats, when we don’t eat, he eats too ^^;

Meow demanding for treats

Even when he was unwell(from before) he demands in his own ways (Meow Beammmm)

He wanted us to accompany him when he was eating after we moved to our current place to the point he would badgered us so we go watch him “perform” eating.

Even up to his last days with us he would go to his food dish by habit, but unfortunately by then eating was not enjoyable anymore :/ He even rejected bread, when he used to steal it from our counter tops and get into big trouble for it. I wish the outcome for all of this is different rather than at the cost of this naughty boy’s life. He had brought much joy and laughter other than the occassional mean bite and random attacks.

Freaked out by the vacuum cleaner

Meow has a buncha fans who loved and adored his photos, and a couple of them were brave enough to meet him in person ^^; He is also spoiled with treats and cards over the years (thank you ladies, you know who you are!)

I normally do not allow him to be on my desk, I would put a lot of stuff on my desk so he won’t be able to lay on it, so he goes over and takes over my husband’s clean desk ^^;

Taken on the last evening before the surgery :/ We were so amused that he watched a bit of the anime my husband was watching in bed… *sigh* Little did we know…

Thanks for looking and everyone who sent their condolences… Pets are family too which is probably why it hurts a lot I guess…

ETA: This 2 images of Meowmeow seems to be being spread around without our permission, we suspect it could be taken from page from way back. We hope the sites using it will either remove it or at least make a mention, so that people know that the cat in the pictures is one which we dearly missed… The hat is made by a friend who’s a big fan of Meowmeow, Virginie/Tibiloo, and was intended for a blythe doll. But it happens to fit Meowmeow ^^; He didn’t wear it for long, just a few quick shots on my camera and he demanded to be released ^^;

My condolences, Chun. The loss of a close pet, as I have been told, can also be quite difficult to cope with for some time.

  2. Am so sad that MeowMeow has gone to that big Kitty PlayGround in the sky. I am glad that you received so much love and joy from him though, and that he was so loved by you both.

He was a remarkable, handsome kitty.

  3. YuKi-To says:

Rest in peace dear meowmeow. Left a cute legacy indeed. Sky Crawlers is good, do watch it. Quite an apropriate show for meowmeow before he left I would say…

  4. You have my condolences. :( Losing a pet, especially one that forms such close bonds with people, is a really tough time indeed. But I’m sure Meowmeow knew how much you two loved him, and that now he’s in a place where he could eat as much as he wants and sit in as many boxes as he pleases.

  5. gordon says:

my condolences for the lost of meowmeow. :(

  6. chun says:

Thanks guys and girls, please remember meow and he lives on in our hearts, and on the internets. It’ll be a while before we get over being sad for what happened but we never regretted having him in our lives, so that’s important. He’s irreplaceable and loved.

  7. Although I’ve never had pets, I know the feeling of losing a precious one. Condolences to you and your hubby.

  8. Tenrou says:

Meowmeow was a beautiful cat. ^_^

Personal experience from when I lost Marsha, last year: it’s going to hurt for awhile, but the pain eventually fades, and you’re left with the good memories and enjoyable times. You and your hubby hang in there, chun.

  9. mezzo forte says:

I’d lost my cat before a few years. It was very sad thing. When I sometimes remembered him, I regretted what do more better thing to him.
But my friend said, you are right to remember him forever. But it is bad thing to worry about him. You must remember good times with him. That’s his wish.
I present same words for you. Rest in peace, Meow.

  10. chun says:

    Thanks lightningsabre

@Tenrou yes, and he’s full of silly tactics lol his memories were mostly good with some naughty lol I think it would had been unnatural if it didn’t hurt. I guess it’s just way too sudden and we had false hope from the vet’s optimism *sigh* Oh well… Thanks tho, I hope meow won’t try to eat Marsha up there :P

@mezzo forte awwww I’m sure your cat had a good life with you :) thank you…

  11. Eerika says:

Once again, my deepest condolences to you and Wai.
I’ve been crying looking at all these lovely photos of Meow (and well, to be honest I’ve been crying a bit ever since I read of Meow’s passing), and have given BooBoo many a hug while doing so.
You and Wai were wonderful kitty parents, and Meow must have had such a great life with you, he was a lucky kitty indeed. I know I’m lucky for just knowing him.

RIP Meow, may there be lots of treat treats and a whole array of cardboard boxes just for you where you are now.

  12. Margarita says:

I am so sorry for your loss! I can’t imagine what you and your wai are going through. When I get home tonight I will hug my huge big naughty kitty (who’s 13– and tends to leave me poo presents that I really don’t like– and will steal food from the table) and remind myself how fragile everything can be. (I didn’t grow up with large animals with my mom’s asthma—and Raven’s the only cat I’ve ever known since she was 4 and left on the landlord’s doorstep in the rain—so hubby and I became unexpectly her owner and have adored her every since.)

I hope Meowmeow is in the land of ever flowing treats and lots of happy scratches.

  13. radiant says:

Awww, I’m sorry to hear that meowmeow passed away… looked like he was a good kitty, and had wonderful caring parents. It’s always painful to lose a loved one, especially one that’s been with you for so long, but I’m sure he had a great time with you!

    May he rest in peace.

  14. Edward says:

Chun I’m so sorry to hear meowmeow is gone. It always hard when they have been part of the family for so long. You and your husband have lots of great memories so he will always be with you.

  15. Denise says:

I lost my dog in 2007 and it still hurts. But I believe in fate. There must be a reason why this pet was placed in your care and why he has to go. I believe when he goes it means our responsibilities as his owner is done. He’s just living somewhere else (RAINBOW BRIDGE).

    Meow will never be forgotton.

  16. ChuaChuram says:

My gosh chun, I’m so so very sorry…=|

  17. Fariz Asuka says:

You have my deepest condolences. Like you said, a pet is also a family member and we will all remember him.. Rest in Peace MeowMeow..

  18. Persocom says:

I can hardly type this because I feel so sad for your loss, very sorry to hear of the loss of MeowMeow. Take your time, it’s not easy recovering from losses of ones so loved.

  19. meimi132 says:

    Once again…. my condolences…
Wow… he was a big kitty… way bigger than either of my two…. though they’re about the same age… I got my cat in in 94/95(can’t actually remember…) I do know she’ll be 14 this year… in May. She’s been sick for some time now with a hyperactive thyroid. Tis why she’s so skinny, eats like a horse lol. She gets her tablets disguised as cheese hehe.

  20. Otaku Dan says:

    you have my condolences, Chun.

  21. RyoBase says:

I feel sorry for your loss. As you just said, even a pet can also considered as a part of family. Rest in peace neko-san, amen.

  22. Aquilla says:

Awww Chun, must be really hard for you. It’s the worst when they go so suddenly like that. Both my dogs died, the first one was killed by the vet because they gave him the wrong medication twice, that was truley heartbreaking because he was only 6 years old, he had so much left to give and it was like he was robbed from us much too young.

The second dog was 13, he went into the vet on day to have x rays and tests because he was poorly and then we got a phone call from the vet to say that he had cancer and that the tumours were strangling his organs and there was nothing they could do to help him. It was very upsetting because we had no idea he may of had cancer and we were expecting to pick him up again later that day, but instead he was gone forever.

Pets are family to me, they’re just as much part of my family as my brother and my mum are and although it’s always so hurtful to see them go, I could never be without my pets. All through their lives, pets give us so much, meowmeow is no different. He’ll live on in yours, and many others hearts. I didn’t know him long but he’s a wonderful cat and I loved reading his stories, seeing his pics and watching his cute videos.

  23. kiwii says:

sorry to hear about you loss. i have had many pets and its always hard when you lose them. in july of 2008 are cat romeo disappeared from are home. i think about him everyday. but sadly you got to keep going. the best things are when you look at there pictures and think about the weird things they would do. best wish to you.

  24. Savvy (SG) says:

    My condolences MeowMeow.
    So cute and adorable. RIP Meow. You were loved by many even if you attacked them ^^;

    I love to keep a pet but my fear is that they will leave so soon. I had a Guinea pig and she left so soon ;_;

  25. xJAYMANx says:

@Puppy-Chun: I just caught up with your previous “finger” post, and now reading this… So sorry to hear about MeowMeow… But from your posts, he definitely brought joy and laughter to the family. And those wonderful memories can’t be taken away…

Thank you everyone for all your kind comments, Meowmeow is very very much missed, so much that it’s an understatement ^^; Would never have known that a cat can have such an effect on us ;_; But yes he definitely left many good and silly memories…

  29. Blowfish says:

Oh no…So MeowMeow didnt make it while i was absent?
Im very, very sorry Chun.I know how hard it hits when your furry buddy parts from you.Ive always been more sensible towards animals and to be honest I was more hurt when i had to part with an animal instead of an human.
This sounds silly but even though he was a cat i dont know this drives tears into my eyes.

    Cheers MeowMeow!
Youve been a good mate! (atleast i assume so)

  30. Mimi says:

Whaaaaa??????? T________T That is so sudden and unexpected ;__; I’m so sorry, you must be so sad by the precious thing leaving you and your family. I’m sure Meowmeow is thankful for all you’ve done, and for taking such great care of him through the years! You didn’t betray him, you gave him such a great life and caring support. Meowmeow is probably looking down at you thanking you for all you’ve done and remembering all of those memories that you’ve shared. Pets are family RIP Meowmeow you will never be forgotten by us and your dear family.

  39. Ghislaine says:

I am sorry Chun. I am just reading your entry now and I know it must be hard for you and your hubby to go through this lost. I didn’t realize how much of a family member he was in your household. I cannot believe he was so tiny before (looking at your pics).

I hope you can find peace and comfort in remembering what a great friend and companion he was.

    RIP Meowmeow.

  40. MikeD says:

A bit late, but… my condolences on your loss. Take care:)

  43. theblackcatpt says:

I am SO sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you.
As I was reading your story, it’s like I was reading about my own cat, Byte.
He too was rescued from a dumpster by 2 kid neighbors that brought him to us. He too was a neutered male that only loved my boyfriend and we also called him gay. He too bit us a lot, sometimes drawing blood (because he was so tiny and wanted to play a lot, his teeth so sharp).
He would groom his fingernails to perfection! We would cut them to make them more blunt and a day later he would have already groomed them to razor sharp knives!
I still cry over my pesky little devil, that towards the end showed me some love and care (finally), making it even harder for me to accept my loss.
Byte was also very similar to your baby in his coat color, but he died being a skinny cat due to his illness (turned out he had a nasty Hepatitis with no symptoms, other than weight loss and not wanting to eat in the last 2 weeks, that’s what made it SO hard to diagnose, he was perfectly notmal, alert, playful…).

Recovery is a long process for us and a very painful one.
They will never be forgotten! (Byte died on the 30th of March, 2009, he was barely 1 year old)

  44. chun says:

@aprilius20 yeah :( thanks for the kind thoughts!

  47. thebard says:

chun, I’m sorry for your loss.
It was rough in the beginning, but he had a good long life, and I’m sure he left this world a very happy cat :)

  48. chun says:

@thebard thank you for your kind words :)

  49. Jenn says:

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I know from experience, when you bring a pet into your life, they become one of the family. Losing them is like losing your child. I hope your other cats are enough to help you get through this trying time. Just try and remember the good times with Meowmeow, and hold them dear. Again, my deepest sympathies for you and your husband.

  50. chun says:

@Jenn ah there is your e-mail, I’ll write you now :) thanks for your kind words and for thinking of Meowmeow and us :)
