Happy Dragon Year!

Happy Lunar New Year everyone! :) Realise I haven’t updated the gallery very much last year ^^;

I felt inspired to create a drawing related to the dragon theme so here it is :D click on image below for a larger version ^^/

I drew and colour this in Sai (What is Sai?), the text and border is done in photoshop ^^ black and white version under cut ^^

Also my girls wish all of you a wonderful new year as well~!

Very honored to be credited for my small work in culture japan X3! Got kind permission from Danny to post about the credit LOL!

Mirai in her Retrograde Suit illustrated by Square Enix lead designer Skan Srisuwan. Of course the main bulk of the entire work was done by Skan Srisuwan san, I just did some editing to Mirai’s face ^^;> For more info and larger images on Mirai Millennium check out Danny’s post :)

Commission work – Murasaki chan

Have not post much art recently, but recently I had the great pleasure of doing this piece of commission art by Vedrana to create Murasaki chan for her ^O^ blog Murasaki.me

So the process started via some e-mailing back and forth — it’s easier that way to keep track of what is needed to be drawn, each piece of work I do differ from client to client, depending on what they intend to use it for and how much detail, if they need a background or just transparent… :) So when some terms and pricing are agreed upon, I work on a rough sketch to show. Most of the time I request for half or a percentage the payment first when I start work, i.e. show a sketch.

Next step I use Sai to “ink” a cleaner image out to be coloured later (What is Sai?) I use red as it stands out over the rough sketches. I change the line colour to black and remove the layer of rough sketch. Much cleaner this way. I also make corrections and adjustments along the way and e-mail previews to show Vedrana :)

Fast forward… lol! This is close to the final version :) Usually before I get paid in full, I will splash “sample” text across the image. Vedrana had kindly gave me permission to post the art of her mascot :D

At the final stage, any changes which require me to redraw will cost extra, I will still be able to tune/change some colours if needed. But luckily for us, Vedrana liked the final result! :D I only need to change the eye colour ;)

Commission work – Yu chan

I was commissioned by Alvin to draw his Dollfie dream Yukino chan into a 2D mascot. This post is to document some of the progress :) Thanks Alvin and Yu chan!

Each commission piece differ in detail and style, so cost differ as well, I’m glad I had some time to do this piece :) I’m a fan of Yukino Dollfie dream too! :P

Alvin’s Yu chan is a happy and active girl ^o^

A little mischievous sometimes…

Hopefully this captures the essence of her “default” look :)

The initial rough sketch (after seeing the references as provided by Alvin for pose etc), this was done before I received payment, hence the “sample” text splashed across the image.

As you may notice, the pencil sketching and the inked sketch has some differences. Did the different expressions on the computer for approval.

3 expressions were selected and finalised inked sketch was slightly rotated for a more natural angle.

Before I start colouring I make sure that the inked artwork is approved, as when I start to colour any major change like pose will mean I have to start sketching/inking again and that can cost extra ^^;

Usually at the colouring stage, the tint of the colour can still be changed if needed. For this piece, the shoes, hair and polkadots probably took more time than the others to complete. ^^/ Thanks for looking!

Blast from the past

Saw i_pup tweeted about finding an old print-out of my old fan art, and I went to did a quick dig around for some old files and found a few… kinda nostalgic ^^;

Some of the artwork were actually auctioned off when I went to my 1st and 2nd anime expo in LA :) Above is an watercolour/gouache piece, it’s probably one of my personal favourite :) her pose was likely referred from a photograph, and dress etc referred from the original artworks at the time. I’m not sure if I still have a large original scan of it tho ^^;

This Deedlit fan art was likely auctioned too ^^; her legs + shoes look funny ^^;; It was dated year 2000 ^^

I referred Nissu from some artwork seen on some Magazines :P I never seen Nissu animated tho?

I think one of the main reason I don’t draw/post as much fan art as before is because I find that fan art seem to get stolen without my permission a lot of the times ^^;

I remember someone actually found my artwork printed on postcards at a convention where my signature was actually still on it… whoever sold it to the people who printed it for sale probably pretended to be the artist of my work… that was awful =_= I mean I painted my work and uploaded them for online viewing/personal use — not for profitable purposes… Luckily my friend was able to help me get the artwork taken down ^^;
