Busy busy!

Had been rather busy the last few weeks mostly had to stay indoors despite the beautiful weather – I hope next week’s forecast of rain is not true (wahhh!)

One sunny day of last week, I managed to bike out and had a gelato at Timmy’s Frozen Yougurt in Steveston tho!

Too bad the guy who served me that time didn’t make a fresh waffle cone for me haha! It still taste good tho, like regular crispy waffle cones ^^ I was thinking about the gelato for a long time and biking out for it was satisfying :)

Too bad after having a waffle gelato, I have no room for Pajo’s fish and chips :P Haven’t had that in a long time!

Got cloudy at some point in time ^^;

I may have missed the ducklings season too, people have been cutting the grass short which makes it not suitable for the ducks to hide ^^; Last year around this time I had a friend visiting and we went out to Steveston Village too ^^/

On a different day, had shanghainese food at Shanghai House with husband and parents in law ^^

The food is generally quite tasty but we found that recent months their broth had gotten really salty :P It’s a real pity as we initially go there a lot as we felt that they don’t taste as salty as other restaurants we have been to…

Potstickers/guotie/chinese gyoza(?) the skin is kinda thick but it’s chewy with a slightly crispy bottom. ^^ be careful when it is just served, it’s hot and the hot “juice” from the meat filling can burn your tongue or squirt out lol

Yet another day, we went to a friend’s baby’s first birthday :D Went to pick up some Outpost Mini Donuts :9 They have a Mother’s day theme out on their display :)

Really cool cake made by baby’s Mommy :3 we get to draw/sign it ^o^

And the surprise came when the cake was cut open! Rainbow coloured lemon cake! Made with love until 3 am the night before ^^;

Okay I should get back to doing some work stuff, thanks for looking! ^^/

Strida Mini grocery run

I needed to buy some small bits and bobs and yesterday it wasn’t rainy, so I made a grocery run on Strida Mini into Steveston Village :)

I could have picked a nicer photo for the top feature but I felt that this photo is quite interesting, I feel that it makes Strida Mini look smaller than it is!

I took a different route since it didn’t appear like it was going to rain despite the feeling of general mugginess, too bad there isn’t a pretty blue sky to take photos with.

But I guess the blue of the Forget Me Nots made up for it ;)

As I leisurely biked along, I spotted some bluebells among some bushes behind a fence, had to stop to take some photos with Strida Mini!

I was born and lived in Singapore until I got married and moved to Canada, and I had a vivid childhood memory of seeing a field of bluebells in a picture book. It became one of my favorite flowers :)

As I get closer to my destination, I was distracted by this boy with two adult guardians close by, he had two lop-ear bunnies close to him, had to stop and try to take some photos :P

This cutie below was curious and quite friendly — I managed to stroke her head a few times (she has a dewlap– female bunnies have those?) She was a little wet from the drool of a doggy who keep wanting to go near her ^^;

I just waited until she hopped away, haha! So cute <3

Reached my destination, got my stuffs, was about to leave and decided to take a quick snapshot of this cafe(?) near Super Grocer, the food smell from here kills me everytime :P One other time I went, they had freshly baked muffins… Oh boy… I had to peel myself away otherwise I would have gone in and buy a bunch to stuff my face! Maybe one day I should go try their food for real!

One of the spoils from the grocery shopping, gonna use some to make some soup I think, they’re great just cut up, with salt and pepper and a little olive oil :3

I haven’t blogged in a bit I know, so I will add some past photos to document, evil food pix included lol

Cooked porkchop last week, using “chicken french” style — inspired by this Food Wishes you tube channel :3

The Yae Sakura still look okay last week, but this week most of it is washed out and droopy ^^; See you next year!

Most of last week was cloudy… and rainy ^^;

And I had a great meet with some blythe doll friends over the Sunday, I want to document some of the food/drink photos here as well :) One of the lovely ladies made Sangria :9 SO YUMMY!

This went into the Sangria XD

Strida Mini

Urban Tea Merchant

Attended a doll meet at Urban Tea Merchant in downtown, organised to meet with the lovely Archangeli who’s in town for work :D

It was my first time there and I was rather excited! XD Evil food pix ahead! You have been warned!

Some of my friends had already been there and I recalled the photos of the food and tea looked pretty ^^

I was recommended a milder version of the english breakfast by our server (if I didn’t remember wrongly what I ordered lol) and it was very good, very fragrant and mild :) I forgot the name of the tea unfortunately ^^;>

My friend on my left ordered a green matcha ^o^

I ordered their brunch and it came on a long glass platter, with a beautiful arrangement of sliced fruits, I had to take a few photos of it as it was like a work of art! Unfortunately the fruits were a bit tart ^^;

bluestarbaby who was sitting across from me ordered the petite signature tea service and it was adorable!

The strawberry was a little old looking ^^; The chocolate detail looked cute tho!

Interestingly enough, the food was a modest amount but I lasted all afternoon LOL I went to dressew with a couple friends to pick up some stuff, holding my bag of dolls and camera and miscellanous items… I was dead tired by the time I got home tho XD! It was a good work out! :P

Thanks Itsid8 for organising and Archangeli it was nice to meet you and your lovely dolls :) I was really amused a lot more guys showed up at this meet LOL, glad bluestarbaby was able to come and transit with me :P I did a sketch which I happened to like a lot to include with Patty’s purchase from my shop X3

Oops, have been neglecting my blogs ^^; had been busy, and the weather wasn’t very fantastic for photos… so haven’t taken much ^^; Some random bits and bobs accumulated and I will post them here :)

Lovely teeshirts get from Yu chann, Moe and her papa Alvin I heard that some of these Tee shirts were snatched up at the cosfest in Singapore :) I was commissioned to draw Yu chann and Moe over the past months :3

Holiday food abuse

Yup food abuse ^^; sorry this post is not vegetarian friendly ^^;

Holiday season means lots of cooking, eating and cleaning, as I was in front of the stove most of the time, these photos are taken by my husband on his NEX 5N with a macro lens ^^/

The star of the dinner that night was beef steak… cooked by my sis in law. ^o^

Gosh, it was so good, and you might not believe me if I told you it’s just seasoned with salt on each side and then pan fried to perfection on medium high heat with a little oil on a non stick pan… ^^; A pair of thongs is used to poke/press the surface of the steak as it cooks, to make sure it doesn’t get too hard, as that means a tough piece of meat ^^;

The fat on the meat will melt into the pan, giving the meat more flavor, and you may need to wear a pair of gloves to prevent the fat/grease from spattering onto your sleeves/hand/arms as you cook ^^;

Steak was bought on the same day, taken out of the fridge to reach room temperature — to relax the meat before cooking (don’t leave it out too long tho!), while I prepare the side dishes of mushroom, onion and green beans and carrot sticks.

We have 2 birthdays in the family to celebrate in December, so it meant moar food abuse other than Christmas/New year lol, but this is definitely a note worthy meal to document :P

After cooking, you let the steak rest for a little bit before eating, as eating it immediately will be a bit too hot, and the juices might run out causing meat to be dry I think?

Nomnomnom!!!

It’s quite a large piece of meat, I end up eating about half and the rest was packed lunch XD

Tumblring food abuse

Japan 2011 – day pass

on 18th Nov 2011 (friday) we decided to go to a few places in closer proximity within Tokyo, so we got a day pass. We ordered a 7 day JR pass exchange when we were not in Japan yet, but we have not activated it yet as we were intending to use it to get out of Tokyo on the shinkansen.

Getting a 730 yen day pass (which you can get from the ticketing machine — they have an English option as well) was a better option than just blindly swiping our suica lol!

We managed to cover Ueno, Asakusa and then Akihabara then back to our lodgings ^^;

Of course I have to bring a doll with me :P for photos of Aki at Ueno park, check it here. I took her to the Volks show room and had about 10 minutes to take photos before closing lol!

Delicious Takoyaki snack after Ueno, went to this rather long market street – Ameyayokocho – with lots of shops selling food, fish, clothes, shoes and bags.. ^^; This one has hard boiled eggs topping on it! So good! Very hot inside tho, be careful if you eat it XD

Japan 2011 – Nakano

Went around looking for a replacement point and shoot camera, and decided that’s not the way to blow my money ^^;

A couple cameras we were eyeing, cost almost half as much more to buy it in Japan than Canada with the strong yen against Canadian… =_=;;;

In the end, I decided to get an older kit lens which is discontinued at a much more reasonable price, at a camera shop which sold new and old camera/equipment. Finally got to take more photos tonight ^^;

Before getting the camera, we walked around in Nakano Broadway to check out some of the shops :3 had a nice time ogling at the Dollfie dreams ^^; So expensive haha ^^;;;

Faint… at the price tag…. (puppies covering Sasara’s puppies — they were very erm perky ^^;)

Parabox shop looked a bit different from what I remember… Either they moved or they renovated XD tempted to buy a lot more stuff than I should ^^;

Time for dinner, we decided to try out a teppanyaki place which was quite hidden, had to go to 2nd floor to get to it :D the young waitress who tended to us spoke some English and helped us out a lot — I was stammering in my limited broken Japanese HAHA how embarrassing ^^;;;

Husband saw this adorable stray cat hiding in a corner XD took a few shots, glad one turned out fine :)

Missing Ginko and Yoshi… luckily our house/cat sitters took some pictures for us :3

Omake: Saw and bought a Pon de Lion toy figure 2nd hand at a pretty decent price at one of the shops XD so happy! I wanted one for a long time :P

Outpost Mini Donuts

Realised to my horror (LOL) I forgot to blog about Outpost mini donuts ^^; I went, took pictures in September, but for some reason completely forgot to blog about it ^^;

I guess the punishment for this is, having to look at the pictures and be painfully reminded that they close at 6 pm on weekdays :P

I had to run some small errands on Strida mini, and a craving for something sweet came up the day before, so I kinda planned to make a side trip to pick up the mini donuts before I head home ^^

I actually rolled Strida mini into the shop and place my order :P Luckily I wasn’t chased out for doing so :P

I generally like my desserts not too sweet and I was a bit curious how these donuts tasted — haven’t had donuts in a bit and had found Tim Horton’s getting a bit too sweet for my personal preference…

I wanted to bring some back for my husband to try as well, so I ordered a cone size for about $6-ish, it contains about a dozen mini donuts, I ordered assorted flavor as I couldn’t make up my mind what type to get :P

Since I ordered it as a take out, this little cone of donut was placed in a brown paper bag and I put it into a recycle shopping back and cycled back home after my errand was done, hoping it wasn’t a big mess when I reach home ^^; Lucky for me everything stayed in place :3

I couldn’t wait :P I picked one of each flavor to nom on XD

Had them with a glass of water (was thirsty after the bike ride), there’s chocolate icing with sprinkles, powdered sugar, vanilla icing with sprinkles, and cinnamon sugar :) I think I liked the powdered sugar the best (from memory) the ones with icing were a bit on the sweet side for me, cinnamon sugar was pretty good too ^^!

omake: Went to the craft store to get some wooden beads :P

Strida Mini

Day trip to Victoria

Went to Victoria for a day trip, carpooled with friends early in the morning, took a 2 hour ferry, then another hour ish in a car…

Had a blast XD Luckily the weather was awesome despite a bit cold :)

had a small snack in the morning :P It was a salad bar which charged by weight :3

There was free wifi when we wait for the ferry but it doesn’t work with skype or whassap unfortunately, but I was able to browse the net on my phone and send e-mails at least ^^

Seriously, the blue skies made it a bit better :P If it were rainy, the ferry ride may not be smooth ^^; With the clear-ish day, the view from the car is quite spectacular too :D

We traded scrapbooks and I did some drawings on the scrapbook I was holding onto :)

I drew the 3rd page some point in the 2 hours ferry ride lol

Time flies when we’re having a great time! Below we’re waiting for the ferry to go back home already >_<;

Had good company which made the long ferry rides more fun! I borrowed this skeleton duck from one of my friends who got it in her goodie bag :D after that I was too tired to bother taking more photos lol :P
