Happy Dragon Year!

Happy Lunar New Year everyone! :) Realise I haven’t updated the gallery very much last year ^^;

I felt inspired to create a drawing related to the dragon theme so here it is :D click on image below for a larger version ^^/

I drew and colour this in Sai (What is Sai?), the text and border is done in photoshop ^^ black and white version under cut ^^

Also my girls wish all of you a wonderful new year as well~!

Wishing all of you a prosperous year of the dragon :)

Used a iphone app called photo synth to make the main image, and used photoshop to edit it a bit — mainly to remove some jagged looking edges around.

Ginko and Yoshi look so deformed here XD

Winter 2012

Brrrr! Sorry, have been busy with some illustration related work, so haven’t been posting much, and since I don’t have a small digital camera I don’t take as much photos :P (excuses!)

Not as much snow compared to last 2 years just yet, but feels a lot colder >_<

Japan 2011 – Akihabara~!

Akihabara ni ikimashita! (18 Nov 2011, Friday)!

There are some food pictures in this blog post… so you have been warned :P

It’s been a while Akihabara! 久しぶり秋葉原！

Only passed by Gundam cafe as we had other stuff in mind to do (before certain shops closed) during our short time there ^^;

Luckily managed to find Volks Akihabara Showroom before it closed, despite being a bit lost :P

Loads of moe 2D girls on the buildings ;)

After we’re done shopping (ahem) time to fill our belly~! Yodobashi Akiba is a good place to go~ Their top floor has many restaurants :9

We chose to go to Kanda Grill this time ^^; Not very adventurous, but we were super tired and wanted to eat something which we can recognize I guess ^^;

Cola~!

Salada (Salad) which came with husband’s order of Tonkatsu curry rice ^^

*Drool…* Japanese rice is so fuwa fuwa (fluffy!)

I picked the hamburg steak set :D It comes with a hamburg (Japanese style hamburger) patty with gravy on top of a few potato wedges, a small side of omu-rice (omelette rice) and green salad. I think it is a generous size for a lady, so for someone with a bigger appetite maybe not enough? ^^;

It was delicious! So warrant another shot ;P

Before we left, I took a photo of their display outside XD

*Drool…* After this we may have walked around a bit in Yodobashi Camera, then headed back to our apartment to a much needed rest ^^;

Japan 2011 – Inokashira Koen, Mitaka

Managed to squeeze some time after lunch to take a walk in Inokashira Koen + a little around Mitaka area ^^ (28 Nov 2011, Monday)

I recalled the day was cloudy and grey but I was glad it wasn’t raining ^^; Much of the trees are still in process of changing colour :) My main reason to check out Inokashira Koen was the adorable swan boats! :P I wanted to take photos of them! lol

The leaves on this tree was a bit more orange/brown than red :P

Not sure what bird this is, but it looked really cool and I managed to get a rather decent shot :)

I got really excited when I saw the swan boats from afar :P I saw some photos after a previous trip and I was beating myself up for missing them when we went to Ghibili Museum!

Quite a bit of people strolling and walking their dogs in the park :) Took a somewhat sneaky photo of this adorable dog :P a bit of a fail since I didn’t capture the face, nor did I dare to ask for a photo ^^;;;

On our way back to the train station, we saw many cute shops and neat sights in the area :D

Walking around, many cute things to be discovered!

Too bad my feet were literally killing me so we didn’t hang around too long ^^; we tried to walk around as much as we could tho!

We did have a couple yummy crepes at this place called Pearl Lady :D

They serve bubble tea too :D

Rainy day special? :)

Expensive looking restaurant ^^;

Holiday food abuse

Yup food abuse ^^; sorry this post is not vegetarian friendly ^^;

Holiday season means lots of cooking, eating and cleaning, as I was in front of the stove most of the time, these photos are taken by my husband on his NEX 5N with a macro lens ^^/

The star of the dinner that night was beef steak… cooked by my sis in law. ^o^

Gosh, it was so good, and you might not believe me if I told you it’s just seasoned with salt on each side and then pan fried to perfection on medium high heat with a little oil on a non stick pan… ^^; A pair of thongs is used to poke/press the surface of the steak as it cooks, to make sure it doesn’t get too hard, as that means a tough piece of meat ^^;

The fat on the meat will melt into the pan, giving the meat more flavor, and you may need to wear a pair of gloves to prevent the fat/grease from spattering onto your sleeves/hand/arms as you cook ^^;

Steak was bought on the same day, taken out of the fridge to reach room temperature — to relax the meat before cooking (don’t leave it out too long tho!), while I prepare the side dishes of mushroom, onion and green beans and carrot sticks.

We have 2 birthdays in the family to celebrate in December, so it meant moar food abuse other than Christmas/New year lol, but this is definitely a note worthy meal to document :P

After cooking, you let the steak rest for a little bit before eating, as eating it immediately will be a bit too hot, and the juices might run out causing meat to be dry I think?

Nomnomnom!!!

It’s quite a large piece of meat, I end up eating about half and the rest was packed lunch XD

Tumblring food abuse

Outdoor dolly photography

Taking photos of dollfie dream outdoors is quite a work out ^^;

Usually other than the doll(s), will need to carry camera/equipment and some miscellaneous stuff, I end up putting my doll in a tote bag most of the time since it is light weight – easy to take out / put the doll away quickly without having to struggle and fiddle with zips and closures ^^;

Some photos of me taking doll photos, taken by meganezaru75 when we were in Japan ^^/

Sometimes, in order to take a different angle of our dolls, we may end up doing strange poses unknowingly XD

Japan 2011 – Matsuri

Sorry for the delay in photo updates, I am trying to get over jet lag, a little sickness and gotta finish some work waiting for me when I came back ^^;

Our friends in Japan kindly took us to check out a Matsuri near the area where we had dinner at, it was apparently the last evening of the Matsuri so we were very lucky to catch it!

I’m always envious of people who show the colourful and festive Matsuri photos, and wished we had a chance to visit one, so I guess my wish came true XD

So these decorative bundles seen below are for good luck if you buy it and display it in your home or business, if I did not remember wrongly it gets bigger each year ^^; and you return the one you bought the year back for the temple to burn and take away the bad luck…

There was a lot of people around this area, and since me and husband are not very tall (LOL) we had to try to not lose our friends in the crowds ^^;

A lot of Yatai (屋台) around selling food and sometimes games XD

kawaii ^^;

The amasake (sweet sake) escaped my husband again lol they were sold out when we went close enough to ask XD

We were super full from dinner so didn’t get any Taiyaki lol, in fact we skipped most of the street food ^^; husband probably have some more photos taken as well which I am looking forward to see when he has time to post them :)

Bonus: Sky tree at night! Skytree is not open yet, but we get to see it from afar when the day is clear XD Really cool to see it at night too, but it’s not lit up ^^;

Japan 2011 – Shinjuku Koen

Went to Shinjuku Koen one of the clear days (25 Nov 2011, Friday) we had, seems that fall is a bit late in Japan this year perhaps?

Or maybe we were hitting the wrong spots LOL! But we managed to see some japanese maple trees turning red ^o^ and it wasn’t super crowded ^^ I am looking forward to see my husband posting his photos of the Koen, I am really liking the photos he take with his camera. ^o^

The day we went it was a bit too sunny perhaps so quite a bit of my photos turned out a bit over exposed, needed to do some tweaking in photoshop except for a few…

It was a lovely mild afternoon, me and husband felt hot even some point in time ^^; we also see people napping on the grass XD

Of course I had to stalk the stray cats which we see time to time :P

Long cat is long ^^; but really… it was 2 cats, I swear :P

Saw a Caucasian photographer taking photos of something on a fence, we went closer and realised it was a dragonfly, quite a few were flying and stopping, so I tried to take a shot as well despite that I’m not a fan of bugs :P Glad I could zoom in LOL

Not sure what these flowers(?) were, but there were plenty around near a rest stop ^^

Photo below is one of the few which did not need tweaking :P

After taking photos at Shinjuku Koen, we had a quick lunch (reminder to self, don’t go to that cafe, the food looks pretty but feels like it only tasted salty ^^;;; )

We went to Nippori next… ^o^

Surprisingly (or maybe not) I did not buy as much fabric as before, I was a little disappointed to see that they still had imported fabric from USA and it took up quite a bit of their quilting level, I much prefer to see Japanese products/fabrics than items I can find locally… ^^; Local fabric shops have some imported Japanese fabrics too but they mark up the price 2-3 times per meter… =_=; Husband took a picture of me checking out some fabrics which I think will be suitable for some ideas I have :3

Dressing up Mascots

Before I left for Japan, (I’m back now, with a ton of photos to sort out, jet lag etc… ^^;) had the pleasure of drawing santa outfits for a couple different poses on Jlist’s mascot Megumi chan <3 Please note I did not draw the actual mascot ^^/ Just the santa outfit for 2 poses :3

Jbox.com (safe for work) / Jlist.com (have adult content ^^;)

Also managed to squeeze some work for Danny before we made our way to our trip… (under the cut :P)

I love DMYO’s work! So moe!!!! >_<;;;;/ I must thank an artist friend of mine who told me one of my strong points was to be able to somehow blend my work to suit other artist’s style, I think I still have much to learn, especially after working with Danny to pay attention to detail and such ^o^;> But I really enjoyed being able to do something closer to my heart :)
