Takoyaki Maker

I had been itching to get a Takoyaki maker for a while, and the funny thing was, I placed an order for one online, only to find that it’s a “mini takoyaki” maker when it arrived!

(FAIL OTL)

What is Takoyaki? Ask Wikipedia XD Before I moved to Canada, Singapore sells Takoyaki at some of the Malls too. So yummy ^^;

With the smaller Takoyaki Maker, I liked that it is rectangular shaped — easier to store. But it was hard to have anything in the middle with the balls so small ^^; Husband said it looks like Dollfie sized takoyaki :P

In the end we bought an actual version which made the regular sized takoyaki at a local Japanese goods store downtown – Konbiniya. We bought a packet of the flour mixture because it was on sale at the time too. Haven’t tried it yet ^^;

Had to test it out the day we got it! So far, I have made a couple bunch of sweet ones using pancake style batter and red bean paste as the filling. The one below is savory batter, and the inside is random bits of cooked meat/cheese. (drool)

Photos below taken with my iphone lol, so not very good quality :P

Almost ready!

Add sauce, mayo and seaweed flakes…

Topped with bonito (dry fish) flakes ^o^

So yummy! But after cooking it, I smell like food afterwards ^^;

    I really liked Takoyaki too. Saw some electric store selling the regular sized takoyaki maker with just 850 Yen and was really wanted it. ^^

    But I kinda worried that I cannot make it properly so I didn’t bought it at the end…

    I prefer Takoyaki with Tako inside it. ^^

    oh! wow 850 yen only O_O! that’s cheap! And it’s not that hard to make it actually, there are many video “how to” make takoyaki online, that was what I looked around for before deciding I need one ^^;; Also, I did not even need some of the items like the metal pick or the oil dispenser, I used bamboo picks (medium length) and a silicon oil brush (http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/silicone-oil-brush.html), find a recipe online to test and that’s about it :)

    this was one of the links I came across when I search Takoyaki Maker:

    there’s also “cooking with dog” channel on you tube XD

    Hope you’ll try it sometime~!

    Holy crap, these things are good. I used to get them from a tiny restaurant run by a Japanese transplant in Gwangju, South Korea. Perfect snack after a few beers.

    Hey, I am also a Singaporean in Canada! I MISS Takoyaki so much, I was researching on buying one, and came across your article. Unfortunately we don’t have a Japanese store here in Calgary :-( so I am buying one online.

    You said you bought your takoyaki maker at Downtown, Konbiniya?
    Maybe I’ll get it there! I was a little worried about buying it online. Thanks so much!
    Btw, do you remember how much it was?
